What's IP means?
In essence, IP addresses are the identifier that allows information to be sent between devices on a network: they contain location information and make devices accessible for communication. The internet needs a way to differentiate between different computers, routers, and websites.
IP stands for
"Internet Protocol". It is a set of rules and protocols that allow
data to be sent over the Internet. IP defines how data is packaged, addressed,
and transmitted between devices on the Internet.
There are currently
two versions of IP in use: IPv4 and IPv6. IPv4 uses 32-bit addresses and is
still widely used today, while IPv6 uses 128-bit addresses and is being
gradually adopted to accommodate the growing number of Internet-connected
devices.
IP is a fundamental
component of the Internet and is used by almost all Internet applications and
services such as e-mail, web browsing, instant messaging, file sharing, and
more.
